A large-scale power cut left nearly 3,000 homes and businesses without electricity in County Durham on Thursday evening.
Around 2,950 customers in the Consett and Leadgate areas lost power after a fault on an underground high-voltage cable struck at 5.34pm on July 9.
Northern Powergrid’s automated systems responded quickly, the company said, restoring power to more than 2,500 customers ‘within minutes’.
However, 441 properties remained without supply while engineers worked to safely restore the remaining connections.
Engineers stayed on site throughout the evening and power was fully restored to all affected customers by 10.09pm – around four and a half hours after the fault was first reported.
