Caerphilly County Borough Council has been highlighted as an example of best practice in a new Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) report.
The ‘Building Health into Homes’ report showcases the Council’s innovative approach to integrating occupational therapy within housing services, helping residents access homes that support independence, safety and wellbeing.
Caerphilly’s integrated Housing Occupational Therapy Service works across the entire housing system, from planning and allocations to individual support, improving how homes are matched to residents’ needs, making better use of existing stock and reducing the need for costly adaptations.
Occupational therapists support residents through assessments and property viewings, ensuring homes are suitable both now and in the future, helping to improve long-term outcomes.
Cllr Shayne Cook, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing at Caerphilly Council, said “We’re delighted to see Caerphilly recognised nationally. By embedding occupational therapy within our housing services, we’re helping residents live independently while making the best use of our homes. This approach is central to building healthier, more sustainable communities.”
