The upgrade in Ellesmere Port follows a £5.4 million investment by Openreach in Full Fibre technology.
Despite the improvements, thousands have yet to switch to the new service, prompting calls for residents to check their eligibility and place an order with their broadband provider.
Full Fibre is not an automatic upgrade, even in areas where the network has been installed.
Kasam Hussain, Openreach partnership director for the North and Midlands, said: “Most of Ellesmere Port is covered by Full Fibre, but many residents and businesses haven’t yet made the switch.
“It’s not automatic – you need to place an order with your chosen provider.
“The difference in speed and reliability can be significant, especially for busy households or people working from home.
“We want to make sure everyone knows what’s available and how to get it.
“Openreach is committed to building the best full fibre network, and doing it sustainably is crucial for our business, the communities we serve, and the environment we all share.
“As part of our ‘Let’s Reach Zero’ strategy, we aim to lower our carbon emissions, use less and waste less material, and protect nature wherever we operate.”
Full Fibre broadband offers gigabit-capable speeds and a more stable connection, supporting smoother streaming, faster downloads, and multiple devices.
The technology is especially valuable for households with remote workers or anyone relying on the internet for entertainment or communication.
The rollout in Ellesmere Port covers around 90 per cent of properties, with more than 18,000 homes and businesses already able to access the upgraded network.
However, residents and business owners must contact their internet service provider to upgrade, as their current package will not be automatically switched to Full Fibre.
Once upgraded, users can expect smoother streaming, faster downloads, and more stable connections.
Despite the high level of coverage in Ellesmere Port, residents are being urged to take the final step by checking their eligibility and placing an order for Full Fibre broadband.
The upgraded service could bring meaningful improvements to daily life and enable both homes and businesses to keep pace with growing digital demands.
Openreach has now expanded its Full Fibre network to more than 20 million properties across the UK, with plans to reach 25 million homes and businesses by the end of 2026.
With the right investment conditions, the company believes it could reach as many as 30 million premises by the end of the decade.
Full Fibre technology promises to keep communities connected and competitive in a rapidly evolving digital age.
