The dream of owning a coastal or country escape as well as a home in the city is becoming less attractive after a raft of policy and tax changes announced this year make it harder for holiday home owners to minimise their costs.
It could be a win for holidaymakers looking for a rental when school holidays and the festive season roll around if the result, at least in the short term, is that more homes are made available for rent at peak times.
