The Melksham and Devizes MP visited Newland Homes’ site, St George’s Mead, in Semington, and “applauded” the initiative for their environmental focus.
He said: “These are the sort of homes we need to be building more of around the country.”
Newland Homes, an early adopter of air source heat pumps, has been recognised nationally with a Best Sustainable Development Award at the What House? Awards.
They have significantly reduced carbon emissions by replacing fossil fuels with air source heat pumps and solar panels.
Mr Mathew said: “The climate crisis demands clear action, and given the impacts of housebuilding on the environment, we must push developers and lawmakers to make all new build homes more efficient and less harmful to their surroundings.”
St George’s Mead is currently expanding, with 18 zero-carbon houses and bungalows under construction.
The site, created alongside parish allotments in 2023, will include a swale meadow, extensive wildflower planting, and a natural play trail.
Marcus Evans, sales and marketing director for Newland Homes, said: “The fact that the homes are selling so well off plan speaks volumes about the growing appetite for greener, more energy efficient living.”
