What’s at stake in the pro golfer’s $200M divorce from Erica Stoll?

Rory McIlroy and his soon-to-be-former wife Erica Stoll will have to divvy up at least five luxury homes as they negotiate a divorce after seven years of marriage.

The pro-golfer, 35, filed for divorce on Monday, just three days before the PGA Championship, writing that his relationship with Stoll, 36, was ‘irretrievably broken’.

The couple, who share a three-year-old daughter Poppy Kennedy born in 2020 and are worth more than $200 million, tied the knot in 2017 after a storybook meeting at the 2012 Ryder Cup.

Their main home is a sprawling estate in Jupiter, Florida, but McIlroy also owns a mansion in California, apartments in New York City and Dubai, and a property in his hometown of Holywood in Ireland.

Jupiter, California 

McIlroy bought the Jupiter, Florida, home inside the guard-gated Bear’s Club golf community from golf legend Ernie Els for $11 million in 2012. It is now believed to be worth double.

The home has 2.4 acres of highly desired land and is believed to have 10 bathrooms in addition to the nine bedrooms across the property.

Stoll and Poppy are believed to still be living at the lavish home while McIlroy is in Louisville, Kentucky, competing at the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club, one of the most prestigious tournaments of the year. 

The home was built in 2002 and was previously owned by former PGA star Els. The South African golfer is a former World No 1, like McIlroy, and is a four-time major champion, also the same as the Northern Irishman who bought the home from him. 

The South Florida residence also boasts a luxury infinity pool, as well as a games room, tennis court, home theater, recording studio and state-of-the-art gym. The 13,000-square-foot home also has a six-car garage.

Just outside where Stoll and McIlroy have been living are the tees for a hole for a golf course inside the gated community. 

The home is also surrounded by foliage, including several palm trees. The pool appears to have been renovated since McIlroy’s purchase of the home. 

McIlroy bought the home from Els while also owning a home in nearby Palm Beach Gardens, which he sold in 2018 for $12.9 million. 

Jupiter, which is a 90-minute drive north of Miami, is viewed as as prime real estate for golfers due to the many courses in the area.

La Quinta, California 

On top of his Florida home, McIlroy is also reported to own a huge mansion in La Quinta, California, which he bought for $12.3 million in 2019.

The house has six bedrooms, nine bathrooms, and incredible views of the Santa Rosa mountains.

The mansion is inside the Madison Club, a gated community for the wealthy built around a golf course that costs $500,000 just to buy a membership, on top of a $70,000 annual fee.

‘Situated on over 150 acres with 120 acres of landscape surrounding all 18 holes, Madison’s Fazio-designed golf course provides a golf course unlike any other in Palm Desert,’ the club’s website claims. 

Dotted around the course are ‘comfort stations’ that ‘from tacos to homemade ice cream sandwiches, Discovery comfort stations provide timely treats that elevate a round of golf’.

The clubhouse, in addition to luxury drinks and dining options, has spas and a private movie theatre.

McIlroy’s neighbors include Kris Jenner and he overlapped for a year with Sylvester Stallone, who sold his smaller pad for $3.15 million in 2020.

Holywood, Ireland 

McIlroy still has roots in County Down, near where he grew up in Holywood. He is believed to own a 19th Century mansion on a 200-acre property with a private golf course, lake, and tennis court.

He bought the property through local real estate company Simon Brien, which posted a photo of one of its estate agents handing over the keys to the golfer on September 18, 2014.

‘Simon Brien Residential are delighted to have assisted our local superstar Rory McIlroy with the purchase of his new house in his hometown, Holywood!’ it wrote.

Apartments in New York and Dubai

On top of the three mansions, McIlroy also reportedly owns two apartments – one in New York City’s Upper East Side, and one in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

His Dubai pad is in the Adriatic building in Oceana, the trunk of the famous Palm Jumeirah artificial island formation.

Which of the dozens of apartments in Adriatic’s 13 floors he bought is not clear. They vary in size from one to three bedrooms, but all have a panoramic view of the Dubai skyline and Persian Gulf.

The one bedroom apartments are 1,920sqft, two bedrooms 1,785sqft to 2,000sqft, and three bedrooms 2,279sqft to 2,440sqft.

Units on sale now range from about $680,000 to almost $2 million.

On-site amenities include a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, and steam rooms, a bar, gym, tennis court, restaurant, and direct beach access

McIlroy also gave an address in Monaco during a 2015 UK High Court dispute with Horizon Sports Management, his former agent, but it is not known if he still owns it as it was later switched out for the Dubai one.

McIlroy and Stoll split after seven years of marriage

Court documents filed in Palm Beach County obtained by DailyMail.com stated their marriage was ‘irretrievably broken’. 

Their daughter Poppy was born in 2020, three years after Stoll and McIlroy tied the knot in 2017 after a storybook meeting at the 2012 Ryder Cup, while Stoll worked for the PGA and McIlroy was dating tennis star Caroline Wozniacki. 

McIlroy’s career earnings total nearly $87 million despite not winning a major tournament since 2014. That triumph oddly enough was the PGA Championship the last time it was played at Valhalla. McIlroy has a net worth of around $200 million. 

McIlroy’s last major was months after his breakup with then-fiancé Wozniacki. The golfer is said to have dumped her in a three-minute phone call hours after telling her he loved her. Their split was in May 2014, before they were due to marry in November. 

The petition for divorce between McIlroy and Stoll states that the pair had signed a prenuptial agreement. However, the details of the arrangement have not been divulged.  

McIlroy’s attorney was listed as Thomas Sasser, the same attorney who represented Tiger Woods when his wife divorced him in 2010. The filing also calls for shared custody and a parenting plan to be established for Poppy.

Stoll has regularly been spotted supporting her PGA husband at his tournaments, including the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome where she wowed in a stunning, strapless black gown on the Spanish Steps. 

She was also on McIlroy’s bag for the Masters Par-3 competition with Poppy in 2023. 

Stoll grew up in New York and graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2008 with a marketing degree. She went on to work for the Professional Golf Association of America.

She was seen at The Players in March when the PGA Tour shared a heartwarming clip of she and Poppy greeting McIlroy on the 18th green.

The golfer was seen scooping his daughter into his arms for a hug with Erica telling him they had been watching his birdie-birdie finish.

And Erica was also seen supporting Rory throughout the second series of Netflix series Full Swing, which documented the 2023 PGA Tour.

McIlroy’s split from Wozniacki came days before the BMW PGA Championship in England, which he went on to win. At the same event the previous year, he tied for 96th place. 

McIlroy has not won another major tournament since the year he broke off his engagement to Wozniacki. 

It is an eerily similar pattern for the golfer a decade later, who won his 26th tournament on the PGA Tour, with his fourth Wells Fargo Championship victory in another dominant performance at Quail Hollow last weekend. 

Asked if he planned to go straight to Valhalla on Sunday night, McIlroy said, ‘I’ll probably go home and just sort of reset, then head up to Louisville tomorrow night or Tuesday morning.’ 

Two weeks before, he scooped yet another trophy for his cabinet, winning the Zurich Classic alongside pal and Ryder Cup teammate, Irishman Shane Lowry, with the duo celebrating their triumph with an impromptu rendition of Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believing’. 

McIlroy’s spilt with Stoll comes amid a tumultuous time for him after his attempt to return to the PGA Tour Policy Board was vetoed. 

He had quit the board late last year citing personal and professional reasons, but had been expected to replace Webb Simpson upon his return. 

But three of the five remaining player directors – which comprises of Woods, Patrick Cantlay, Peter Malnati, Adam Scott and Jordan Spieth – voted against the move.  

McIlroy’s tee time for Thursday’s first round of the PGA Championship at Valhalla has been set for 8:15 a.m. Eastern time at hole No 10. The Northern Irishman has been paired with Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose. 

Right before McIlroy tees off is the trio containing Woods at hole No 10 with an 8:04 a.m. start time. Woods is paired with Adam Scott and Keegan Bradley to start the four-day event in Kentucky. 

Alongside Woods and golf legend Jack Nicklaus, McIlroy is one of only three golfers in history to win four major championships by the age of 25. 

The Northern Irishman has stood at four major victories for a decade. Woods and Nicklaus won a combined 33 major tournaments. 

The only major tournament McIlroy has not won is The Masters, with his best finish coming in 2022 in second place.
