March could see 605 new homes built after a planning application that was validated by Fenland District Council last Thursday (May 30). The proposal would see one existing home knocked down to make way for a 50-home development to the north of Lambs Hill Drove, in the southeast of the village.
It comes after an application for 425 homes to the east of Wimblington Road was validated in August last year, and a proposal comprising 130 homes to the south of Barkers Lane was validated last April. These sites are also located in southeast March.
Plans for 44 homes in Wimblington, just to the south of March, were also validated last week. The planning statement written on behalf of the applicant for the 50-home site, Cannon Kirk Developments Ltd, explains that a council-approved development plan puts forward 650 homes to be built in the southeast of the village.

The statement continues: “The development will provide new market and affordable housing opportunities to meet local needs. The new homes will be of modern design and be of a mix capable of supporting the creation of a balanced and diverse new community.
“To support the new homes, significant open space and play facilities are proposed to aid recreation opportunities, exercise and social integration. The wider allocation will also deliver a significant ove- provision of public open space, a locally equipped area of play, a neighbourhood play, community orchard and community garden.
“Cannon Kirk will provide £2,000 per dwelling in financial contributions to support local infrastructure such as healthcare, schools and libraries.”
The entire site would measure approximately 4.7 hectares. The area includes a corridor of land that will connect the development to the highway at Wimblington Road.
Ten of the homes will be classed as affordable, according to the planning statement. A decision on the plans is expected to be made by August 29, 2024.
