What The renovated Grade II*-listed Doric House, a four-bedroom late Georgian property that was home to the British landscape and rural life painter Thomas Barker. Features include a wine cellar and a balustraded terrace that overlooks the garden to the cityscape beyond.

Outside, there are stables, a tower and outbuildings in a 1.25-acre garden. The roof was rethatched last year.
Where In Manaton, a village on the eastern side of Dartmoor National Park. It’s a 25-minute drive to the market town of Newton Abbot. Exeter and Plymouth, with their regional airports, and the beaches of the south coast are all within 35-50 minutes’ drive.
Why Half Moon House is the former home and studio of the artist Jeanne du Maurier, sister of the author Daphne and granddaughter of Punch cartoonist George du Maurier. Jeanne lived here for more than 40 years until her death in 1997, and when her partner Noel Welch died in 2017, she left the property to the National Trust.
