A housing project in a Norfolk village has reached a key milestone in its construction.
Nineteen new homes, including 10 affordable properties, are being built by Suffolk-based builders Aspen Build in Little Snoring, near Fakenham.
The construction phase was celebrated with a traditional topping-out ceremony, which involved pouring Norfolk beer over the roof tiles.
Jenny Watson, chair of Broadland Housing, said: “We are very pleased to mark this latest milestone in the provision of homes for local people here in Little Snoring.
“We are especially happy that the affordable homes will be prioritised for people who have a connection with Little Snoring and its surrounding villages, and that we will be able to offer them at social rent, a lower level of rent which equates to approximately 60pc of market rents.”
The scheme includes eight homes for social rent, two under a rent-to-buy model, and nine for open market sale, which are set to be available from November.
Properties will range from one to three bedrooms and will include solar panels, air source heat pumps and high levels of insulation.
The site will also feature a public open space and a landscaped pond.
Councillor Jill Boyle, portfolio holder for housing and people services at North Norfolk District Council, also attended the ceremony.
“We are delighted to be working with Broadland Housing Association on one of their latest developments in Little Snoring,” she said.
“Families with a local connection to the immediate area will soon be able to enjoy the benefits of well-designed, sustainable new homes which use cost-effective solar panels and air source heat pump technology to help keep running costs low.”
It is the company’s first collaboration with Aspen Build, the Suffolk-based contractor delivering the project and homes on the development will have an ‘A’ EPC rating.
