British production company Quiddity, founded by BAFTA award winner Emily Morgan (I’m Not a Witch, Supernova), has secured a strategic investment from Mexican production services giant The Lift.
The Lift’s investment will support the development of Quiddity’s forthcoming projects, and the companies will also collaborate on specific projects.
This is The Lift’s first international investment, which builds on the success of its film division, created in 2021.
Morgan has strengthened the Quiddity team with the hiring of Filiz-Theres Erel (Persuasion, Ali and Ava) as head of production and Alex Hitch as the company’s head of development.
Prior to joining Quiddity, Erel worked with renowned UK and international companies, holding production manager roles on feature films such as Carrie Cracknell’s Persuasion for Netflix, Roger Michell’s The Duke for Pathé Films, Clio Barnard’s Ali and Ava for BBC Film, and Coky Giedroyc’s How to Build a Girl for Monumental Pictures.
Hitch most recently worked as a development executive for Ray Pictures, managing projects in its development portfolio, and previously held positions at Carnival Film and Television, Wildgaze Films and Left Bank Pictures.
Quiddity’s next release is Dreamers, Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor’s BBC Film-supported debut, which Yellow Affair is bringing to market at Cannes. Other forthcoming projects include Butterfly, directed by Mer Film (Norway), in coproduction with Zentropa (Sweden), and Nordfilm (Germany) with UK coproduction funding from the UK Global Screen Fund.
The growing slate of projects in development includes film and television from around the world, further supported by a recent award from the BBC’s small indie fund.
Quiddity’s Emily Morgan said: “The Lift has created a world-class offering in a creatively and commercially exciting region. This new strategic alliance creates a transatlantic bridge for storytelling, which is a fantastic opportunity for both us as companies and the network of creatives we represent. I’m also delighted to add more energy to our talented team with Filiz and Alex, who bring invaluable experience and fresh perspectives to our projects and the company.”
Santiago Fabregas, partner and leader of The Lift Films, said: “This partnership is a natural extension of our work to champion Mexican storytellers and filmmakers on a global stage, and to support the rapidly growing creative explosion in the country. Emily’s impressive track record and creative passion for Latin America means that investing in Quiddity and collaborating closely is a logical next step as we look to grow our stable of incredible homegrown narratives that can, and should, travel the world.”
