Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, will begin a European tour today which will see him first in Berlin and then in Paris. In the German capital Starmer will meet the chancellor Olaf Scholz, which will launch negotiations on a new bilateral treaty which, as reported by the British government, “should boost trade and business, deepen defense and security cooperation and increase joint action on immigration illegal”. In Germany, Starmer is also planning a bilateral meeting with the German president Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Besides Christian Bruch, CEO of Siemens Energy. “The stop is part of a series of visits planned by the Prime Minister to increase investment in the United Kingdom and create more high-skilled jobs in every corner of the country,” reads a note from Downing Street.
Starmer will meet next Armin Theodor Papperger, managing director of Rheinmetall, a German defense company “fundamental to the modernization of the British Army, supporting thousands of jobs at sites in the South West and Shropshire”, which has recently made “significant investments in its Telford hub to deliver Boxer armored fighting vehicles”. According to the agenda, Starmer is due to travel to Paris in the evening for the opening ceremony of the Paralympics, “before meeting French business leaders, including major investors in the UK economy, for breakfast on Thursday morning, including Thales , Eutelsat, Mistral AI and Sanofi”, explains the London government.
