Topcon Healthcare has announced a strategic investment in Okko Health, a UK-based software medical device company.
Okko Health’s home vision monitoring platform is designed to support ongoing patient self-monitoring between clinic visits, operating from a patient’s smartphone.
The technology combines advanced vision science, data analytics, and a gamified user experience to empower patients to protect their eye health, enabling early detection of subtle changes in visual function.
This is designed to promote and facilitate a timely re-engagement with eye care providers when clinical intervention might be needed.
Dr Stephanie Campbell, founder and CEO of Okko Health, said: “We believe that everyone deserves access to great vision care, and that begins with empowering patients to take an active role in monitoring their eye health.”
“Okko Health’s vision tests, delivered through engaging puzzle games backed by strong vision science principles make it easy for patients to track their real-world visual function,” she added.
Commenting on the support from Topcon, Campbell said: “We’re excited to expand access and help ensure patients see their providers when it matters most.
Topcon Healthcare led the seed funding round for Okko Health, with the investment also advancing the company’s Healthcare from the Eye initiative.
The initiative leverages ocular data and its cloud-based platforms to identify and monitor ocular and systemic disease.
Ali Tafreshi, CEO and president of Topcon Healthcare Inc, said of Okko Health’s technology: “We see this as a powerful extension of our mission to deliver proactive, data-driven, and personalised eye care.”
The technology “strengthens the link between patients and providers in the moments that matter most, between visits,” Tafreshi highlighted, adding: “With Okko Health, patients are more engaged in their care journey, and clinicians gain valuable visibility into vision changes over time.”
