National Landlord Investment Show has announced that the former Leader of the Conservative Party, the Rt Hon Sir Iain Duncan Smith, will be joining the hotly anticipated panel debate ‘General Election: Positive News or Total Disaster… Red Vs Blue, How will the result impact UK landlords?’ at Old Billingsgate in London on July 3.
With the announcement of a General Election date imminent and a Labour Government promising a ‘slew of amendments’ to the Renters Reform Bill in the House of Lords, the second half of 2024 could be a bumpy ride for the Private Rented Sector. It has been speculated that the UK could see a General Election called as early as May 2024. In which case, the Bill is unlikely to have passed into legislation, and with many predicting a Labour landslide, it could spell more change than anticipated for the sector.
Unfortunately, there’s no crystal ball – although we do know that UK elections can yield wildly unexpected results – but on July 3, the morning panel debate, chaired by Ian Collins, featuring Sir Iain Duncan Smith MP and Economics Editor of the Sunday Times, David Smith, will seek to unpack the ramifications of a General Election on the Private Rented Sector. More panelists to be announced shortly.
Ian Collins (TalkTV) commented:
“I am delighted to be hosting the morning debate. I’ll be joined by the Rt. Hon. Iain Duncan Smith, and Economics editor of the Sunday Times, David Smith. With a General Election looming, the subject of the panel couldn’t be more prescient: ‘General Election: Positive News or Total Disaster… Red Vs Blue, How will the result impact UK landlords?’.”

“We made the decision to include a Summer Spectacular to our show calendar in 2015 and never looked back. This is a must-attend for anyone with an interest in the Private Rented Sector. Registrations are flying in and we can’t wait to welcome everyone to what will be a fantastic day.”
Doors open at 08:30, giving landlords a great chance to make connections at the Morning Networking Event, with the doors opening to the main exhibition at 09:15. The ever-popular Morning Panel Debate begins in the auditorium at 10:15, and from 12:00 to 12:30 ‘Property Mastermind‘ presented by Paul Shamplina (Founder of Landlord Action and star of Channel 5’s Nightmare Tenants, Slum Landlords) tests the knowledge of three guest landlords by asking as many questions as possible within a minute and a half, all on the subject of property. This is the second heat of the contest, and the winner will go into the Property Mastermind Grand Final to be held at the National Landlord Investment Show season finale on 30th October.
A UK Landlord explains:
“I have been attending the shows since they started in 2013, and I have always enjoyed the panel debates, seminars, and speaking to exhibitors. The whole day is very informative about tax, company structures, and legislative changes in property which will help me in maximizing my profits in 2024.”
