Nearly all of the young renters polled agreed that being mindful of energy use is an important trait in a housemate. According to the survey results, this includes always turning the lights off when leaving a room (30%), not leaving the hot tap running (25%), turning off the TV when not watching it (25%) and recycling (24%).
Smart Energy GB’s research also shows that 95% of young renters want to live in an energy efficient property. It also states that 63% of respondents had gone as far as to walk away from a property with poor energy efficiency such as a lack of double glazing, no smart meter, or poor insulation.
Victoria Bacon, Smart Energy GB, said: “It’s clear that being energy efficient and living sustainably are really important housemate qualities for young people.”
