A FRUGAL mum shared the steps she takes to save in her day-to-day life.
From watering down her Weetabix to using out-of-date ingredients, the 32-year-old has cut down her household costs significantly.
As a self-described “cheapskate”, the TikToker (@diaryofacheapskate) explained that she has taken measures to live more frugally over the years.
Thanks to all her efforts, her family is now even able to live mortgage-free.
In a recent video, she showed her audience an example of what she typically eats in a day.
For breakfast, she revealed that she has a bowl of Weetabix “pretty much every morning”.

However, she takes a step to stretch her carton of milk even further every week.
“I am trying to use less of the milk just to save a bit more money so I’ve been slowly watering it a little more down and I can’t really taste the difference,” the TikToker explained.
She filmed herself as she poured a small amount of milk over the cereal before placing the bowl under her kitchen tap.
The extreme frugal measure doesn’t bother the mum, who revealed she prefers her Weetabix to be “mushy “.
For dinner, she explained that her husband and children weren’t home so she made herself a jacket potato that she needed to use up.
She showed her followers how the potatoes had begun “sprouting” before she cutting off the effected area and cooking them up.
The TikToker raided her fridge for more leftover items to fill out her meal.
She added sweet corn and a tin of tuna to her dinner, saving half the tuna for a sandwich the following day.
Finally, the frugal mum added some greenery to her plate to complete her dinner.
“The salad is a couple of days out of date but I’ve washed it and I’ve looked at it and I smelled it and I think it’s fine to eat,” she said.
Finally, she enjoyed a “little snacky snack” of animal biscuits and blueberries.
Here’s how to cut the cost of your grocery shop
SAVING on your shop can make a big difference to your wallet. Here are some tips from Money.co.uk about how you can cut the cost of your shopping bills:
- Write yourself a list – Only buy items that you need. If it isn’t on your list, don’t put it in the trolley
- Create a budget – Work out a weekly budget for your food shopping
- Never shop hungry – you are far more likely to buy more food if your tummy is rumbling
- Don’t buy pre-chopped veggies or fruit – The extra they’ll charge for chopping can be eye watering
- Use social media – follow your favourite retailers to find out about the latest deals
- Be disloyal – You may want to go to different stores to find the best bargains
- Check the small print – It’s always worth checking the price per kg/lb/litre when comparing offers so you’re making a like for like decision as a bigger box won’t necessarily mean you get more
- Use your loyalty cards – Don’t be afraid to sign up to them all. They all work slightly differently – work out what bonus suits you better and remember to trade in your points for additional rewards
The TikToker’s followers shared their thoughts on the budget meals in the comments section.
“Life is too short to water down milk on Weetabix,” wrote one TikTok user.
“That is the saddest jacket potato I’ve ever seen,” added another viewer.
“Someone tell her the war is over,” joked a third commenter.
“The way my jaw dropped when you but the bowl under the sink,” said another follower.
