Cllr Cheryl Carlisle reported that there had been an “explosion and fire”.
Images from the scene show two properties have been badly damaged in the blaze. Thankfully, no one has been killed or injured but the families had “lost everything” in the blaze, with the community rallying around to support them.
A spokesperson for the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 12:41 this afternoon to reports of a property fire on Peulwys Lane, Old Colwyn. The fire involves two neighbouring properties.
“Five appliances and an ALP are currently in attendance.
“All occupants from both properties have been accounted for. We continue to advise people to stay away from the area while the incident remains ongoing.”
Cllr Carlisle said she was alerted to the incident and raced up to the scene where she found the road blocked off.
She said: “I understand the fire started in one house and spread to another. It is very good to hear that no one has been killed or injured.
“The community of Old Colwyn will now rally round and help the families affected, with clothing and support.
“Housing at Conwy council will look to sort emergency accommodation and we are working with housing association Carterfi Conwy.”
A collection for the families has now been started at the community centre on the estate.
A resident said the people affected only had “the clothes on their back”.
