Residents experience the football fever for themselves
Two East Yorkshire care homes have been sharing in the World Cup excitement. Care UK’s Tranby Park, Hessle, and Beverley Parklands, Beverley, have joined young football fans for a spot of sporting fun.
Tranby Park, Heads Lane West, arranged a visit for residents to a local college for a morning of football activities. They teamed up with students from St Anne’s School and Sixth Form College to take part in a range of activities and join the nation in celebrating the huge summer of sport.
The day began with residents and college students taking part in a training session led by PE teacher, Joseph Cockshutt, in the school’s sports hall. Everyone learned footballing skills such as dribbling and passing before taking part in a penalty shootout.
Resident Phillip said: “I had a wonderful morning, it took me back to my childhood football days, especially when I was in a school team with Bobby Charlton.” Emma Medici, home manager at Tranby Park, said: “We had a ball teaming up with St Anne’s School to take part in a football training session.
“For many residents, football is more than just the beautiful game – it represents a lifetime of treasured memories and traditions. This event allowed us to honour these special moments and bring them to life once again.
“We’d like to extend a huge thank you to St Anne’s School for welcoming us and making this a day to remember. With spirits high, everyone involved proved they still have plenty of goal-den skills to show off!”
At Beverley Parklands, residents welcomed in a local team for an afternoon of sporting fun. Members of Hall Road Under 10 girls’ team joined in a host of football-themed games, following refreshments prepared by the home’s catering team.
Samantha Atkin, home manager at Beverley Parklands, said: “We had a ball opening our doors to Hall Road girls team to take part in a penalty shootout with us.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to bring different generations together for a day of matchday magic. It was truly heart-warming to watch residents reminisce and share their favourite football stories from years gone by.”
The events formed part of Care UK’s “Goal-den Moments” initiative, which aims to bring generations together and encourage residents to reminisce about cherished football memories with the local community while sharing new experiences together.
