A series of agricultural buildings at a village farm could make way for nine homes under new plans submitted to a council.
Ryan Foster, of Diamond Developments Ltd, has applied to Mid Suffolk District Council for the project at Ashes Farm, in Oak Farm Lane, Mendlesham.
Under the proposals, the buildings would be demolished and seven bungalows and two houses would be constructed in a ‘farmstead style layout’, a design and access statement said.

The site is a former agricultural yard with areas of central hard standing; the existing buildings are predominantly steel and timber framed.
It is around 1.3 miles from the main Mendlesham village, two miles from the A140 and Stowmarket is around eight miles away.
The site has fallback ‘Class Q’ planning permission for the conversion of the buildings into 10 homes; the current proposals have sought to use this fallback option as ‘the foundation for a clearer and more defined residential redevelopment’.
“Rather than simply converting a series of agricultural buildings in their existing positions, the scheme proposes a planned farmyard-style layout which reflects the historic character of Ashes Farm while creating a more coherent residential environment,” the statement said.
The homes would be arranged around informal courtyard spaces and shared access routes.
The statement described them as a ‘natural evolution of the former agricultural yard’.
They would be accessed via an existing route.
The homes would use air source heat pumps for heating and hot water and solar panels for electricity.
