A college is investing millions into new sports facilities as part of a long-term improvement plan.
Lancing College is investing £6.5m in a major upgrade of its sports infrastructure, including a refreshed swimming pool, a multi-sport indoor facility, and a new Astro pitch.
The project, which will span two years, aims to reflect the importance of sport within the college’s educational ethos.
Students from Lancing Prep Hove, Lancing Prep Worthing, and Dorset House will also benefit from regular access to the improved facilities.
Dr Scott Crawford, headmaster at Lancing College, said: “I am delighted to be able to announce this significant investment at the college.
“Parents often tell us that sport plays a significant role in their child’s development: not only in building physical strength, but in fostering confidence, teamwork, leadership and a sense of identity.
“This exciting announcement will align the school’s facilities to match both the quality of our provision and the values we hold so strongly and demonstrates that sport is a core part of the Lancing education, not an optional extra.”
The project is divided into three key developments.
The first phase, a £2.6m refurbishment of the college’s swimming pool, will reopen in June after nine months of work.
Upgrades include modernised operating systems, enhanced swimming amenities, and a new reception area.

A further £4m investment will go towards building a multi-sport indoor facility, set for completion by September 2027.
This will be located next to the existing grass tennis courts.
Subject to planning approval, a new 2G Astro pitch will also be built on the college’s Dyke field, to be completed in September 2028.
The surface will enable its use for multiple sports.
To help fund part of this second investment, the college plans to launch a fundraising campaign in spring 2027.
The upgrades aim to support pupils of all abilities, from those just beginning to explore sports to those pursuing excellence at a competitive level.
Recent sporting achievements include the U16 boys reaching the ESFA National Cup Final, the U16 girls earning bronze at the South of England Hockey Finals, and the senior boys’ basketball team finishing top of their league.
