Jeremy Mason has withdrawn proposals for five self-build properties at Bircham Tofts, near Docking.
Great Bircham Parish Council had objected because the site is on a bend on the Stanhoe Road through which an average of 865 vehicles a day pass through, with almost half exceeding the 30mph speed limit.
It added the site was also outside of the village’s agreed development boundary.
Some 17 objections were received. One said: “Stanhoe Road is a busy road which vehicles often speed along.
“The traffic data from the parish council shows that speeding is a major concern. To create an entrance way here would create a major hazard.”
Another said Speedwatch records showed the village had one of the highest number of speeding offences in Norfolk.
They added: “The access to the application site is on about the most dangerous part of Stanhoe Road being close to a blind bend and with speeding traffic will represent a serious increase in danger to traffic.”
Concerns were also expressed that the new homes would fill the gap between the two villages of Great Bircham and Bircham Tofts.
Norfolk County Council’s highways department said the development would need around 30m of hedgerow to be removed to ensure drivers turning out of it would have sufficient visibility along Stanhoe Road.
But a planning officer warned the proposals would be refused because they would “result in the loss of green space and verdant character of part of Stanhoe Road because of the loss of a hedgerow to provide access to the site”.
They added the development would not be sustainable because future occupants would be “highly reliant” on cars to access facilities.
