The council will participate in the UK Real Estate, Investment and Infrastructure Forum in Leeds, where it will share a platform with 16,000 delegates alongside Cumberland Council and the newly established Cumbria Combined Authority.
The Cumbria Pavilion at the forum will bring together investors, developers, policymakers and industry leaders to explore the county’s development pipeline, strategic sectors and long-term economic vision.
Sir Bradley Wiggins will help shine a national spotlight on the county’s growth ambitions whilst building anticipation for the Tour de France Grand Départ scheduled for Cumbria in July 2027.
Stage Two of the men’s race will start in Keswick on 3 July 2027, passing through the southern Lake District on the way to Liverpool.
The route will travel through some of the area’s most spectacular scenery, passing lakes including Thirlmere, Grasmere, Rydal Water and Windermere before heading through the Lyth Valley and passing through Milnthorpe and Beetham into Lancashire.
Council leaders will also attend the Great North Investment Summit in May, providing another opportunity to promote opportunities in Cumbria.
The Tour de France is expected to deliver significant economic benefits to the region.
The 2014 Grand Départ in Yorkshire generated an estimated £131 million in economic impact, with similar or greater returns anticipated for the 2027 event.
The race will be broadcast to a worldwide television audience of more than 150 million people, offering unprecedented exposure for the county’s landscape and tourism offerings.
Cabinet heard the update at its meeting on April 21.
