Homes are ‘flying off the shelf’ in one part of Cheshire, with properties taking an average of just 34 days to sell
If you’re contemplating selling your home soon, you might be curious about how long it will take to secure a buyer. At present, properties are taking an average of 64 days to sell across the country, according to Rightmove, but this can fluctuate based on your location.
In certain parts of the UK, homes are being snapped up in as little as 15 days. When properties are selling faster than the average, it’s usually due to factors such as affordability, high demand from buyers, competitive pricing and appealing amenities.
Rightmove’s speed of market tracker has now unveiled the quickest areas to sell a property in the UK, with a part of Cheshire named amongst the fastest markets. Homes are ‘flying off the shelf’ in the industrial town of Runcorn, with an average selling time of just 34 days.
Situated on the banks of the River Mersey, Runcorn boasts a rich industrial history, green spaces and excellent commuter links due to its status as a major transport hub in the north west. Manchester is roughly a 45-minute drive or train journey away, while Liverpool and Chester are less than 20 minutes away by train.
Runcorn is a haven for affordable housing, with prices significantly lower than the UK’s average of £364,833. According to Rightmove, properties in the town averaged at £194,184 over the past year, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Terraced properties, which made up the majority of sales, went for an average price of £133,800. Semi-detached houses sold for around £194,929, while detached properties fetched £308,648.
Carlisle in Cumbria and Bootle in Merseyside also feature among the fastest areas to sell a home in Britain, with homes selling in just 37 days and 40 days on average respectively. However, it’s Cumbernauld, just northwest of Glasgow, that takes the crown as the quickest-selling area across Great Britain, with homes taking an average of just 15 days to sell.
Scotland dominates the top 10, as the country continues to be by far the quickest market to sell houses, thanks to its unique buying system. In England, Heaton in Newcastle has the fastest market outside Scotland, with homes taking an average of 26 days to find a buyer.
On the flip side, coastal areas are experiencing the longest selling times. St Austell in Cornwall is currently the slowest market, with homes taking 101 days on average to find a buyer, followed by Paignton with an average sell time of 97 days and Torquay with an average of 95 days.
