The proposals by Bloor Homes come ahead of a community consultation for the development, which would see 1,300 houses constructed at the former Dollymans Farm in Rawreth.
Mark Francois, Conservative MP for Rayleigh and Wickford who campaigned against green belt development during the General Election condemned the plans as “completely unsustainable.”
In a letter to the MP outlining the proposals, a spokesman for Bloor Homes said: “There is a need to address the current house shortage in Rochford, and as such, we are bringing forward plans to deliver up to 1,300 much-needed homes for local people, including 50 per cent affordable.
“We believe this scheme represents a transformative opportunity to address the pressing housing needs of Rochford District, whilst delivering wider benefits to the local community.
“During our community consultation, we want to listen to local people and key stakeholders to understand their local concerns, and to hear what the community would like to see in their community.”
The consultation will run from today to June 4, with the developer sound boarding residents’ views by distributing leaflets to properties in the area and launching a website with a virtual exhibition.
The potential development, which would run along the A127, has proved controversial due to the urban expansion onto green belt they entail, with MP Mark Francois slamming the outlined plans.
Mr Francois said: “Green Belt development on this scale is completely unsustainable.
“I campaigned against this idea very strongly at the General Election, so I have a clear mandate from my constituents to fight it; which is exactly what I’m going to do, including in Parliament.”
“It is now imperative that if and when Lib-Dem led Rochford District Council produce their new Local Plan it categorically rules out any development at Dollymans,” he added.
Bloor Homes will also hold two in-person drop in events on May 16 at Rawreth Village Hall from 2.30pm to 7.30pm, and May 17 at Shotgate Community Hall from 9.30 am to 12pm.
