Miguel Sard has been appointed to the new role of chief banking officer, retail at Shawbrook.
He will be responsible for unifying functions and processes across Shawbrook’s different propositions.
Earlier this year, Sard (pictured) announced he was leaving his position as managing director of home buying and ownership at NatWest. He was in this role for four years.
Sard has significant experience in the banking sector, including a 16-year tenure at Santander as the bank’s managing director of mortgages.
A spokesperson for Shawbrook said Sard would be joining the group later this summer, adding: “This new executive committee role will bring together our consumer lending, savings and specialist mortgage propositions from across Shawbrook’s existing consumer franchise and the group’s retail mortgage brands: The Mortgage Lender and Bluestone Mortgages.
“We will continue to operate and leverage the strengths of our three distinct brands, while taking advantage of the significant opportunities we have to share technology, capabilities and knowledge within the combined business.”
The spokesperson added: “With Miguel leading a combined retail business here at Shawbrook, we have the opportunity to deliver the best of what a specialist bank can provide with the scale and reach of a major consumer organisation.”
Shawbrook bought out The Mortgage Lender in 2021 and, last year, acquired Bluestone Mortgages.
This week, it was revealed that Steve Seal, chief executive of Bluestone Mortgages, had left the business after seven years.
